Dai Yue Xuan has been making brushes on Beijing’s Liulichang street since 1916. Baiyun (“white cloud”) brushes are the everyday workhorse of Chinese painting — soft enough for washes, firm enough for lines. Three sizes cover flowers, landscapes and calligraphy.
